You have explored wellness through the four general lenses of the general education program. For this module, you are preparing your final project, bringing together the work from the previous weeks into a portfolio and a
presentation. Issues and events in wellness can affect us in direct or indirect ways. For example, consider the impact of environment on wellness and vice versa. For the purposes of this module, we are using environment to refer to
the physical space that surrounds us. This goes beyond the scientific understanding of environment as the natural world, ecosystem, or biosphere and also incorporates a sociological understanding of environment that factors
urban design, public planning, and access to resources. The social determinants of health continue to be relevant as you continue to explore the environmental aspects of wellness beyond this class, such as food deserts, urban
design for walking and biking, air/noise/chemical pollution, and urban gardening.
Environmental wellness impacts all the people who live in a community. For instance, consider the access to healthy water that has impacted the city of Flint, Michigan (Flint Water Crisis Fast Facts) or the island of Puerto Rico
following Hurricane Maria (About 1 Million Americans Without Running Water). Water is one of the most vital substances to our wellness, and without access to clean water, we are unable to stay hydrated and are susceptible to

There are examples of communities making a positive impact on wellness. For instance, the city of Detroit, Michigan, has launched community gardens as a solution for both reclaiming abandoned land and for feeding the people in

public transportation.
This week, you will submit Final Project Part One, your analysis of your issue or event in wellness through the four general education lenses, and Part Two, a multimedia presentation in which you have a chance to reflect on what you
have learned about your issue or event, yourself, and wellness through analyzing its impact on society through the four lenses.
