Overview: You will choose an issue or event in diversity for the first half of your final project, the critical analysis portfolio, and critically assess it using the four general education lenses: history, humanities, natural and practical sciences, and social sciences. You will gain insight into how the intersectional nature of diversity influences society, as well as your own individual framework of perception and the choices, attitudes, and behaviors of others in the world around you, by viewing the issue or event through these lenses.
You will evaluate your issue/event in diversity through the lenses of natural and practical sciences, as well as the social sciences, for this fourth milestone, which is due in Module Six. This job, like Milestone Two, allows you to delve deeper into your analysis of the issue/event through these two lenses. This will provide you the opportunity to practice examining your problem/event via these lenses and receive feedback on your efforts.
Prompt: Examine your work from Modules 5 and 6, as well as the Four Lenses document from Module 1.
Then, using the natural and applied sciences as a lens, examine your issue/event by pondering the following questions:
How does this issue/event use natural and applied sciences to make a social statement?
In what ways may science assist you in resolving or improving your problem or event?
Then, using the social sciences as a lens, examine your issue/event and respond to the following:
What impact does this issue/event have on societal issues when viewed through the lens of the social sciences?
In what ways does the social science lens assist you in articulating a better understanding of the social issue(s) that are at the heart of your issue/event?
Note: You’re working on two independent analyses, one in natural and applied sciences and the other in social sciences. Two papers must be submitted in a single Word document.
Make sure to back up your claims with scientific proof. To support your responses, consult the course materials, the LibGuide for this course, and any other relevant resources. With the instructor’s permission, current news sources may be used. Part one of the Final Project should include instructor feedback.
The following key elements must be handled in particular:
I. Lens Evaluation: You will analyze your issue/event using two of the four general education lenses in this area of your assignment.
A. Examine your problem/event through the perspective of natural and applied sciences to see how it affects different institutions. To back up your argument, use research evidence.
B. Examine your problem/event through the lens of the social sciences to see how it affects different institutions. To back up your argument, use research evidence.
Submission Guidelines based on the Rubric: Milestone Four should be submitted as a single Word document containing two documents. The complete submission should be between two and four pages long. Double-space your text and use a 12-point Times New Roman font with one-inch margins. At least two sources from the specified course resources or other academic sources located independently via the Shapiro Library should be used to support your responses for each lens. Use the APA citation style to cite your supporting sources.
