Focus of Paper
As discussed in the chapters 1 – 6 of the book The Innovators DNA, four key behaviors characterize executives who engage in creative thinking, namely: Questioning, Observing, Networking, and Experimenting (Q,O,N,E)
For each of these creative thinking behaviors: 1) summarize each in an opening paragraph for each of the four sections that comprise the paper. Then 2) provide four comprehensive examples for each. Each example should describe a comprehensive example of a specific Questioning Behavior, Observing Behavior, Networking Behavior, and Experimenting Behavior that you engaged in this semester. Each of these four descriptions (a total of 16 for the paper) must also be discussed by comprehensively summarizing a specific example of the behavior (Q.O,N, E) that appears in Chapters 1 – 6. In this regard, you are relating and describing an example of a Q, O, N, E that you engaged in, and then, you also relate this behavior to a specific example from Chapters 1 – 6. There should be no Summary or Conclusions to each section (Q,O,N,E), or to the end of the paper.
The paper MUST be CAREFULLY PROOFREAD for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and proper use of paragraphs. If there are more than 5 errors, ½ grade will be deducted.
A minimum of two examples for Q, O, N, and E must come from Chapters 3 , 4, 5, and 6 respectively. No examples from other books or articles should appear. The DNA book (Chapters 1 – 6) should be the ONLY source.
Additional Requirements and Formatting
- The paper MUST be a minimum of 6 pages; the maximum is 8 pages. (1/2 grade will be deducted if the paper is not a minimum of 6 pages.
- ½ grade will be deducted if the following Formatting is not followed:
- Include a Cover Page with: Paper # 1 at top of page and MGMT 650 2 (or 3) and Name next to Paper # 1. Leave the rest of page blank (for my comments)
- After the cover page, begin with the first behavior Questioning Use Bold(for each Q.O,N,E) and then begin your summary description of Q on the next space-and-one-half line.
- Number each of your four examples.
- Number your pages using your word processor. Do not have the cover page numbered. Page 1 appears after the cover page.
- Use space-and-one-half; DO NOT DOUBLE SPACE EXCEPT 3 times in the paper; after the fourth example of Q, O, and N.
- ONLY use a double space between each Q,O, and N
- All margins should be a maximum of 1 ¼” . If you do not know how to format so the page number appears BELOW the 1 ¼” margin, you can write the P#.
- ONLY use 12 pica font size.
- Indent each paragraph
- Any plagiarizing – even one sentence – will result in the paper not being counted toward an Option 2 Grade. If this occurs, one’s Final Course Grade will solely be based on Option 1 criteria.
- If any student turns in a paper that has highly similar examples, wording, copying, etc. as another paper, both papers will not count toward an Option 2 Grade. If this occurs, one’s Final Course Grade will solely be based on Option 1 criteria.

Elements of the required response may also be lacking. 40 points out of 50: The essay illustrates solid understanding of the relevant material by correctly addressing most of the relevant content; identifying and explaining most of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology; explaining the reasoning behind most of the key points/claims; and/or where necessary or useful, substantiating some points with accurate examples. The answer is complete. 50 points: The essay illustrates exemplary understanding of the relevant material by thoroughly and correctly addressing the relevant content; identifying and explaining all of the key concepts/ideas; using correct terminology explaining the reasoning behind key points/claims and substantiating, as necessary/useful, points with several accurate and illuminating examples. No aspects of the required answer are missing. Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points: Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points: Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format. There are major errors in the formation of the references and citations. And/or there is a major reliance on highly questionable. The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points: References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated. Frequent errors in APA 6th Edition format, leaving the reader confused about the source of the information. There are significant errors of the formation in the references and citations. And/or there is a significant use of highly questionable sources. 15 out 20 points: Credible Scholarly sources are used effectively support claims and are, for the most part, clear and fairly represented. APA 6th Edition is used with only a few minor errors. There are minor errors in reference and/or citations. And/or there is some use of questionable sources. 20 points: Credible scholarly sources are used to give compelling evidence to support claims and are clearly and fairly represented. APA 6th Edition format is used accurately and consistently. The student uses above the maximum required references in the development of the assignment.
