What is the purpose of this study? Justify why a study on this topic needs to be carried out:
The purpose of this study is to critically analyses human rights protection in the Ivory Coast when using health and care services. Over seventy years ago, the World Health Organization (WHO), recognized the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health as a fundamental human right.
Since then, the right to health has been enshrined in many constitutions all over the world including Ivory Coast’s constitution thus indicating a link between health and human rights.
However, there have been increased inequities related to race, gender and economics that have led to an abortion of respect for human rights.
In the Ivory Coast, the government imposes user fees for public services such as health thus requiring people to have adequate finances to access modern health and care services. User fee issue is a major constrain in health and care services that deny many people the enjoyment of their right to health (Azevedo, 2017). Many poor people are therefore denied access to this critical human right.
A study in this topic will affirm the strong link between health and human rights and thus encourage the government of Ivory Coast to address human rights barriers to health and care services.
