The goal of this task is for you to recognize sociological themes at work in your daily life. You will critically evaluate how society shapes and constrains your daily existence by keeping a field journal of your social and institutional experiences for one day. 1) The act of observing
Make a field journal (example). Observe and document the main interactions and institutions in your daily life for one day. Who is the first person you speak to when you wake up? What are your options for the next few days? Do you take your children to school, go to the gym, or go to work and engage with coworkers? Throughout the day, you will assume various roles by engaging with other people and in various settings, as well as interacting with various social institutions (education, government, health, etc.). Describe how societal standards shape and constrain our day.
Examine how at least four sociological concepts (such as roles, institutions, interactions, impression management, stage theory, and emotional labor) apply to your field log observations. This section of the article should not be on the generic social norms you mentioned before; instead, focus on specific themes from our book (refrain from using dictionaries).
Find and incorporate an appropriate source that demonstrates how sociologists investigate this idea in everyday society for at least two of the themes (for example, emotional labor in the restaurant industry). We talked about gender socialization, for example:
