Fuel Release and Remediation Against Chemicals and Fuels Essay
Hazardous Chemical Release and Remediation – Fuel Spills and Responses
In manufacturing operations, chemicals and fuels are used on a constant basis. Some manufacturing facilities have an on-site petroleum fueling station to fuel up the facility’s transport vehicles. Fueling tanker trucks fill the above-ground tanks (ASTs) storing the fuel. There is a potential for a large release of fuel onto the ground during this loading operation. There could be several causes for this fuel release: faulty connections, over-filling, pipe rupture, etc. The facility has less than 500 total gallons of fuel on the property, and as such, the facility is not required to have an SPCC plan.
Consider that there is a large release of fuel (about 100 gallons) to the ground during an AST filling operation. The spill is currently localized to company property only, and has not reached any stream or waterway.
In your state, country, or region (I live in Texas)
- does the spill need to be reported to any federal, state, or other agency?
- What conditions trigger reporting in such cases?
- Given your state or regional process, what steps should be taken to study the fuel release?
- What are the important parameters to be determined about the fuel release such that remediation can be implemented effectively? (Note, for this assignment, we are not proposing nor performing the actual remediation.
4a) We are collecting appropriate information so that remediation can be designed and performed).
Paper should be in APA 7 formate; including a title page and a reference page. An abstract is not required for this assignment. The body of your paper (not including title or reference page) should be approximately 2-3 pages.
Your paper will automatically be evaluated through Turnitin when you submit your assignment in this activity.
