the purpose of this first assignment is to introduce you to a particular policy issue that has been discussed in two

presidential administrations, when the policy began, its impact over various sectors, and its effectiveness over time.

requirements

pick one federal policy that was discussed over a span of two different administrations. for example, health care

policies under presidents clinton and obama, or foreign policy under presidents george h. w. bush and george w. bush.

in addition to the strayer library, you may want to use the following resources as you develop your paper:

• american politics: presidency and the executive to assist you in identifying a policy.
• for concepts and terms referencing public policy purpose and outcomes, see what is public policy?

write a 3–4 page paper in which you:

• discuss the historical perspective of the time when the policy was discussed or implemented. indicate the context or the problem of the day and the urgency for the policy.
• analyze the social, economic, and political environments for the time the policy was discussed or implemented.
• critique the policy for its effectiveness of the time.
• include at least four peer-reviewed references (no more than five years old) from material outside the textbook. note: appropriate peer-reviewed references include scholarly articles and governmental websites. wikipedia, other wikis, and any other websites ending in anything other than “.gov” do not qualify as peer-reviewed. use basic search: strayer university online library to identify references.

there is an order to our world. without order, the universe would be nonexistent, as many scientists are now

understanding. for those that work in the world of computing, we enjoy the ability to use technology because there is

order at the smallest levels of matter, the atomic level. the order is a very strict scientific principle that we are able to

harness matter to represent data. in christianity, the bible mentions order in the creation of the universe: “then god said,

‘let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for

seasons and for days and years’” (genesis 1:14, new american standard bible). psalm 19:1 tells us, “the heavens

declare the glory of god; the skies proclaim the works of his hands” (new international version).

Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points:  Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points:  Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format. There are major errors in the formation of the references and citations. And/or there is a major reliance on highly questionable. The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points:  References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated.  Frequent errors in APA 6th Edition format, leaving the reader confused about the source of the information. The paper omits significant structural elements required for and APA 6th edition paper. Formatting of the paper has major flaws. The paper does not conform to APA 6th edition requirements whatsoever. 5 points out of 10: Appearance of final paper demonstrates the student’s limited ability to format the paper. There are significant errors in formatting and/or the total omission of major components of an APA 6th edition paper. They can include the omission of the cover page, abstract, and page numbers.
