Instructions for the paper:
Inequality between Women and Men in the Workplace
Balancing work and personal obligations can be difficult. This can be particularly difficult for parents of young children. Women have traditionally carried a greater share of the burden of home and child care, making it more difficult for them to advance in the profession. You will examine the barriers that women face in the workplace, investigate workplace policies that benefit or hinder women in the workplace, and compare workplace policies in the United States to those in another country for this Final Paper. There are three primary themes that you must discuss in this paper.
Gender Inequality in the Workplace (Part 1)
Examine the challenges that women face in the workplace.Describe how sexism, discrimination, and family responsibilities might contribute to workplace gender inequities.
How do women’s domestic and childcare duties affect their performance at work? Is it the same for fathers and men? Why do you think that is?
Explain at least two methods in which gender inequality in the workplace can be measured. Make sure you have scholarly sources to back up your claims.
Part 2: Policies in the Workplace
Examine workplace policies that assist or impede women in the workplace.Describe how regulations or benefits at work could help employees balance their work and family responsibilities/needs (e.g., flextime, telecommuting, job sharing, part-time work, childcare, parental leave, etc.).
What influence do these measures have on women in particular? To put it another way, how may these policies assist women (especially mothers) in entering the workforce and competing on an equal footing with men?
3rd part: In comparison to other countries
Compare and contrast the workplace policies in the United States with those in another country.Examine and describe the policies in force at work in Sweden, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Cuba, Chile, or Argentina. If you Google “family friendly workplace policies” in your preferred country, you will get a wealth of information. Make sure you only use scholarly and government sources that you can trust.
Compare and contrast these policies with American policies and practices. What does each country’s policy imply about gender stratification and inequality in its society? Do any of the findings come as a shock to you?
