Input-output modeling
Input-output modeling is an analytical framework used to study the interdependencies and relationships among different sectors of an economy. The shock vector represents changes in specific sectors, such as an increase in productivity or a decrease in input costs. Multiplying the input-output table by the shock vector allows us to assess the impact of these changes on other sectors and the overall economy.
Input-output modeling also enables the analysis of various economic indicators, such as the backward and forward linkages of sectors, the multiplier effect, and the industry’s contribution to employment and output. Backward linkages refer to the extent to which a sector relies on inputs from other sectors, while forward linkages represent the sectors that benefit from a sector’s outputs. The multiplier effect captures the overall impact of changes in final demand or sector-specific shocks on the economy as a whole.
Input-output modeling has numerous applications. It is commonly used in regional and national economic planning, policy analysis, and forecasting exercises.
