TYPES OF EMERGENCIES AND DISASTERS; INTRODUCTION TO EMERGENCY OPERATIONS
Summary of the Project

For this course, the Session Long Project will entail creating an emergency response plan (ERP) for a specific town that experiences at least three severe events or disasters each year. It is not necessary for the plan to be extensive, but it should focus on the operational requirements for dealing with these disasters or emergencies. A hazard analysis, as well as mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery plans, will be included in the ERP.

The SLP will result in a fully functional ERP, which you will exhibit to the city council and others during public hearings on its deployment. The completed ERP must be submitted with the Module 4 SLP.

For your Session Long Project, choose a community.

Other than ordinary crises, what are the three sorts of disasters or emergencies that you aim to plan for in your ERP?

Explain why you chose these tragedies in a few sentences.

To support your writing, use images such as maps, charts, photos, tables, and numbers.

The remaining four modules, as well as this one, will be used to piece together the presentation. You will synthesis content from Modules 1-4 SLPs into a final assignment of 15-20 pages in the Module 4 SLP.

This SLP paper for Module 1 should be no more than three pages long.

Expectations for SLP Assignments

A community must be chosen, and a critical assessment of three types of probable disasters that this community may experience must be presented.

The length of this SLP, excluding the title page and references, should be no more than 3 pages.

At least two references from academic sources should be given (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles). There are readings that must be completed. The amount of quoted content should not exceed 10% of the whole document (since the focus of these assignments is critical thinking). Make use of your own words while also expanding on the ideas of others. When text is reproduced verbatim from another source, it must be surrounded by quotation marks. The references should be cited in the text and listed in the References section at the end of the assignment (preferably in APA format).

Subheadings should be used to structure your paper into sections based on the question.

Grammar and Spelling: While minor errors will not be penalized, assignments must follow conventional grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence syntax requirements. If grammar and spelling have an impact on clarity, points may be deducted.

Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points:  Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points:  Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format. There are major errors in the formation of the references and citations. And/or there is a major reliance on highly questionable. The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points:  References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated.  Frequent errors in APA 6th Edition format, leaving the reader confused about the source of the information. There are significant errors of the formation in the references and citations.
