The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Book by Sherman Alexie
Story Name: In like a Lion
To Sherman Alexie,
Your book is very attractive and wonderful because it contains a lot of real example and sample of an Indian person in his daily life and in another countries such as United State of America. Also, how each stories give great lesson and show an amazing experience. The author tried to give many principle and value between the difference from an Indian people and white people. In particular, “in like a lion” story the author begin his story by showing his interest and success he made as freshman student through achieving his dream as he learned from his father. Becoming a unique player in the basketball and he made it. Then, after his struggle and difficulties he faced he stand by his coach and his other team player as they give him a great encouragement, unlimited support, and huge assistance. These tools help him to not give up and don’t see him down just because he is an Indian person and how to he can sustain his self to have a good power of expectation especially for his self. In addition his coach give him a solution that you have to use the yucker. Then he being sad because he think this bad to him because he is an Indian but the coach explain his point that yucker is used for all kids, and people too. Yucker means that to thorough out every thing before you start the games. Arnold played the game not against his white fans but he played to win and embarrass his best friend. So Arnold decided to join big competition between all of basket players, which they are stronger than him.
Because he want inspire him self as toughest person too. Also, this game is very important to him in his entire life and don’t think of racism and different nationality.
During his big day he made a great challenge beside high jump that he hit his enemy player in his face and being a big shooter. In the end the Indian kid is crying from the breaking his fiends heart and he give apologies to him and others team. Also, he said this just the moment that boy and men are crying. Therefore, the author shows in this story his lovely moral and his an excessive attitude around his friends.
Compare And Contrast Essay
Reading stories are essentials for many reasons such as educational, exploring, and experience. Also, give a clear direction and helps our mind to imagine any event or place similarly for the driver once open the map to see the distance and the road. After I read story “In like a Lion” by Sherman Alexie in his book title “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” and discover the story through giving a beautiful structure and meaningful ideas. On the other hand, I read new story from” new voices” about “we’re not in Arabia any more” by Mashalle Jasem and how in this story there is a great point about get the knowledge of understanding writing and reading in new country. Reading these two stories have many good example and sample, that I have been able to understand the meaning and consequence of the idea. Therefore, there are many similarities and difference between these two stories.
First, the similarities between the two stories are on the one hand of understanding new vocabulary. In [Mashalle Jasem, We’re not in Arabic anymore] the writer effect by other essay “creative writing” by Lilian Tran that she understood the answer for what is maturity? The meaning for maturity from the writer point of view is the person think of what people should see him or what should to be. But as young person we should know that each person has full of energy, productivity, and creativity in learning. By trade kids learn from adult and adult learn from kids and the circle of learning keep continue. In addition, in [Sherman Alexie, In like a Lion] the author understood from his coach the word meaning of yucker, and the power of expectation. Yucker means throw every thing behind you once you enter game, and the power of expectation means how person expect it self positively. Another example, both stories the writers took this challenge from their parents and want to follow their family footsteps. In story (we’re not in Arabic anymore) their parents studied in United States, and in Story (in like a lion) his father is basketball player in U.S.A, but also his dream to be famous basketball player too their. Moreover, accommodation to new country or environment as United States country is another similarity between these two stories. In story (we’re not in Arabic anymore) speaking publicly an Arabic word that the author used to and mistakenly say the word and no one understood such as “Yalla” means “let’s go”, and “Bas” means “But”. Likely, in story (in like a lion) the Indian kids feel difficult with white boys such as he suffering through how they watch him and treat him. From these two examples of learning new language and build skills in another country we can conclude this is coming from person itself and his encouragement. And the other two similarities points we can examine how get acknowledge from our relative, friend, and teacher are helpful and amazing too.
Second, the main differences between these two stories are the idea and the goal of the story. In story (we’re not in Arabic anymore) the writer shows that Arabic language is private because it should use only at home. The reason behind that is to learn English language perfectly from speaking with Native American and learns from mistake and reading such as magazine, article, and news in English. Also, being foreign is not hard but needs a lot of steps and practice to accommodate with new culture and tradition. But, in Story (in like a lion) the Indian kids didn’t want to think of racism and different nationality but he want from basketball game to encourage and inspire him self as toughest person. These distinctions from my concern are obviously in clear in both stories, but I can see one other difference the way in writing for instance support idea from other authors, or narrative the story by details. Also, the differences give a strong writing because there will be many questions around the point and help to think for solution or find a way for any complicated issue.
In conclusion, these similarities and difference from these two stories represent a good opportunity and chance to get benefit to all people to see new countries such United State and others. Plus, travel helping to expand our education and understood new things from the world.
